Energy/oil/gas/coal/uranium resources of the Czech Republic

Crude oil

Sources of the crude oil are concentrated mainly in south Moravia. Crude oil from the Czech Republic covers only 5 % of the total consumption.

Two crude oil pipelines lead to the Czech Republic:
Družba
from Russia
Ingolstadt
from Germany

Uranium

Functional bearings in the Czech Republic are Rožná, Brzkov, Jesenice – Pucov,... (mostly in North Bohemia).

The Czech Republic has enough uranium reserves. However, uranium for the nuclear power plants is imported. There 31.8 % of electric energy was produced in 2008.

Natural gas

Natural gas is found mostly near the oil or black coal bearings. Gas is considered an ecological fuelling. Main mining areas in the Czech Republic are: South Moravia, North Moravia. In Příbram there is an underground store of natural gas. Natural gas is imported from Russia.

Black coal

In the Czech Republic there are a lot of bearings of the black coal. Black coal is even exported. Surroundings of Ostrava are the main mining area. Bearings are also in the Beskydy mountains. (2008: 7.0 % electricity from black coal.)

Brown coal

In the CR there are 9 mined deposits with a total annual mining of 48.7 million tons. The brown coal is mainly mined in foothills of the Ore Mountains - at Sokolov, Chomutov and in Most Basin. Its combustion produces power in heat power plants. (2008: 50.7 % el. energy from brown coal.)

Hydro power stations

Their power is about 800 MW. In the CR most hydro power plants are on the rivers Labe and Vltava. In 2008, hydropower energy was about 2.4 % of the total energy gain.

Biomass

In 2008, 1.4 % electrical energy was produced from biomass.

Wind power

The power of the wind power stations is over 200 MW (2008: 0.29 %). It is not too much, but it is environmentally friendly. Most wind power stations are in Krušné hory mountains.

Solar Power

Solar power stations have not yet a big power (about 80 MW), but they are ecological.

 They are almost everywhere.
